Thanks to generous bequests from some special donors, EFC is able to offer an expanded suite of scholarships in 2021 to help Estonian-Canadian students defray the costs of higher education.
The EFC Martin & Heljo Mäeks Scholarship is the first new addition. Through a generous endowment fund, this new flagship scholarship will be granted annually and could grant as much as $10,000 per student. To qualify, students must be able to speak Estonian at a basic level (A2) and must be registered in 2nd year or above of an undergraduate program at university or college. In addition, the EFC Board is able to give special consideration to students with financial need. The scholarship is a meaningful continuation of the care and support Martin Mäeks showed to Estonian-Canadian young people throughout his life.
The second new scholarship is funded by a bequest from Vilma & Heinrich Blum. The EFC Vilma & Heinrich Blum Graduate Scholarship was created specifically to support Estonian-Canadian students pursuing Master’s and Doctoral level studies.
These scholarships are in addition to the traditional EFC scholarship, which supports undergraduate students in 2nd year or above who have limited or no Estonian language proficiency.
Deadline: June 1, 2021
